Guess Who Made The Globe Again?

The local papers can't seem to get enough of "Him!"

As you know, "Him" is the star of our short promotional video to get Google to Quincy.  This latest article in the Globe is really about Boston now joining the many cities and towns looking to get the attention of the folks at Google.

If you haven't checked out our video and our brochure, please do so when you get a chance.  They're designed to be entertaining and informative, and you'll definitely learn some interesting things that will win you a free drink at a bar.  We've also compiled a list of other cities and towns competing for Google Fiber, so be sure to check out what we're up against.

The Video is Online!

We tried very hard to keep this from leaking, but the official Googlize Quincy video is now online!

Yeah, we made the front page of the Globe.

So our Googlizing efforts caught the attention of the Boston Globe earlier this week, where they ran a story that featured us on the front page!

It costs quite a pretty penny to advertise in the Globe.  According to their rates chart, a full-page ad in black and white on a non-featured page runs around $50,000 give or take.  We were featured on the front page, the whole article took up about a quarter page, and it was in color.  Cost to us?  Nothing.

See what a community can do when it works together?  Now we only wish the rest of our expenses were as low...

Wow

So everything was against us in terms of scheduling, and just when we set up something less that reasonable to shoot our video, we had to bump it up a day early.  During the St. Patty's Day celebration.  While it was monsooning outside.

The footage we put together today is beyond brilliant!  We were pretty sure that we were going to be marching nobly in front of a veritable firing squad, but today's shoot was tremendous!

If we can accomplish this much for Quincy with everything against us, this week should be a boon of energy!

Creative Recording

So we needed the "scratch track" for tomorrow's recording.  The scratch track is what people listen to as they're dancing and lip synching to a music video.  And since we're going to have dancing and singing being filmed tomorrow, we needed this done TODAY.

Only... Chris Veneto, our sound engineer, already had lunch plans at S6 in Quincy Center.  And Matt Demopolous, our singer, had to absolutely have the thing recorded by 3:30pm.  So what did we do?

We brought Matt, and the studio, to S6!  Chris was so kind to take a break from his lunch, and we turned the second women's lavatory into a recording studio!  Can you see how badly Quincy wants to partner with Google???

Why Such Last-Minute Notice?

So how come it seems like such last-minute notice for this viral video shoot?  Very simple:

The guy behind the camera, and the real brains behind the shoot, has to go help his wife have a baby in just a few days!

That's right, we did have an original schedule that would have given us more time, but not a lot more.  Google only gave communities short amount of time to respond to begin with.  The folks here participating in the Googlize Quincy project found that to be a refreshing challenge.  When the baby decided to come out sooner, we had to push the schedule up.

And now we're challenging you to join us... THIS SUNDAY!  Come on by Pageant Field at 10am!  Bring some funky sunglasses, your kids, some friends, and plenty of warm clothing.  We're going to have some fun, and put together a video that will rock the socks off the Big Wigs at Google!

Wanna Be Famous??? (Changed Location)

Casting call to all people in the Quincy area --

We're going to be shooting the Googlize Quincy video THIS SUNDAY, March 14th, starting at 10am at City Hall in Quincy, MA.  We need people from all ages, all shapes and sizes -- basically, we'd like to have as many Quincy folks as possible (and even friends of Quincy).

To participate:
Show up BY 10am at City Hall in Quincy, MA.  Plenty of free parking is available.  Bring friends!

What to bring:
Costumes aren't necessary, but if you have something you think would be funny, bring it!  Obviously historical Quincy figures are appreciated, but any colonial-era costume will be fine.  We'll even consider clown costumes, Big Bird costumes, Stormtrooper outfits -- basically anything!

What next:
After our big shoot at City Hall, we'll be shooting at other locations throughout the city.  We'll update this blog as we move along, but if you register at 10am at Pageant we'll assign you for other shoots throughout the day.  RAIN OR SHINE we're going, and don't worry, there's shelter up at the field, and we'll have hot coffee on set.

RSVP's are much appreciated, but not required.  We will give bit-part considerations only to those people who RSVP, so please do so by emailing Kevin Glennon at kevin@kevinglennon.com.

Shooting THIS Sunday and Monday (UPDATED)

We're going to be shooting the online video THIS upcoming Sunday and Monday (the 14th and 15th) around Quincy.  The schedule is still being developed, and everything is in a frenzied state of development, but if you're interested in participating this is what we need:

  • People to be on-hand to help shoot.  Millions of things go on behind the camera, and we need you to help.
  • On-camera talent -- that's right, acting!  Wanna be a movie star?
  • Props -- got a colonial-era costume?  Maybe a white wig?  Got some puppets?
  • Cash -- we still have plenty of expenses, and need every dollar we can get.
To join in, please contact Kevin Glennon ASAP using the information below:

And We're Up!

John Adams Fighting Gorn
And just like that, the people of Quincy have put together this blog to keep you up to date on the Googlize Quincy project.

We plan on using this site to keep our Googlize Quincy team, and the general public, up to date on our 3-week effort -- to explore strange new ideas, to see out new possibilities of communication, and to boldly go where no one has gone before.

And yes, that really is a photo of John Adams fighting the Gorn -- he did it years before James Tiberius Kirk...
